Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT DOES THE RESIDENCY PROVIDE?
The modern house where you will be staying is located in a remote area. The center of town is about
2.5 miles away, where you will find a grocery store and restaurants. There are two bicycles at the house.
The house has high speed internet and a land line, linens and cooking implements, a washer and dryer.
There is not a ‘wet’ studio space in the house but there are three bedrooms and you can use all the space
in house as long as it’s left the way you found it. The house will be cleaned before you move in. Please
try to leave it in a similar state. We will pick up trash and recycling after your stay.
HOW LONG IS THE RESIDENCY?
Residents stay in the house for one week from Sunday 4pm to Sunday 10am. The residency availability
for 2012 is the weeks of May 20-27, June 3-10 and the last two weeks in September.
WHO CAN APPLY?
The residency is open to any artists and scholars whose work relates to the story of the modern movement,
the mid-20-century creative convergence on Outer Cape Cod or the Cape’s particular landscape.
WHAT IS MY OBLIGATION TO THE RESIDENCY?
We ask that you share your work and experience of your residency either through a lecture, salon or
contribution of an entry on our blog. We would appreciate 2 small pieces of art (if your work lends itself).
One will stay in the house and one may be auctioned at a later date.
HOW IS THE WORKING DAY STRUCTURED?
The awarded applicant is free to structure the day however works best for the work you are doing.
WHAT CAN ARTISTS DO WHEN THEY ARE NOT WORKING?
Wellfleet is a summer vacation town. During the summer months (June-August) the population swells
from 3,500 year-round residents to an estimated 17,000. From September through May, Wellfleet is quiet
and more remote. The Outer Cape is surrounded by Cape Cod National Seashore. There are beautiful
beaches on bay and oceanside, a harbor, trails for walks and hikes, and many ponds. Wellfleet also has
many art galleries, restaurants, as well as a wonderful library with award winning librarians. You are also
15 miles to Provincetown.
